The Significance of a Mother

10 May 2018
Melissa Peck

I want to dedicate this moment to all mothers who have persevered to raise their children the best way they can. The mothers who has balanced their time between children and husband. To the mothers that took on the responsibility of children who were not their own but yet loved them as their own. To the single mothers who tirelessly work to keep ends met for the care of their children. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

It gives me pleasure to spend this moment talking about the significance of a MOTHER. We are born nurturers. That is a blessing within itself. God created us with a womb. I especially like how Bishop TD Jakes refers to it as a “Sanctuary”.  While carrying our babies we nurture them into the beings they will begin to be, with nutrients from our bodies, then when they’re born, we nurture them with a mother’s love. God designed mothers to care for their children, in their infant stage, naturally (from the body). What a blessing it is to be a mother!

We are also natural leaders. Remember the times when you had to break up disputes between the children and you didn’t know who to believe? So you made a decision based on the personality and character of each child.  Do you remember the times you had to juggle being at one child’s school program, and taking the other child to his/her sports practice?  So you split yourself in two, by taking one child to practice, then spending the rest of the time at the other child’s program until practice was over.  And we must not forget, how you delegated chores to each child, according to their attention span and ability.

My favorite Mother and Daughter story in the Bible is Naomi and Ruth. Naomi was a wise and seasoned woman who nurtured Ruth to earn the favor of Boaz.  She was a good example of the Titus 2 woman. As our children grow into adulthood, our job is not to tell them what to do but help them make wise decisions for their lives. My children are adults now, but I would not trade being their mother for the world. I thank God for allowing me to be the nurturer He has designed me to be to them. Thank you Lord for Mothers!
