while Growing in Grace"
-Matt. 28:19-20, 2 Pet. 3:18
This week I want to spend a moment talking about the significance of a wife. We all have our ideas of what a wife should be like. We can ask wives who’s been married over 20 years what a wife is, but let’s see what the bible says about a wife.
In Genesis 3:16b, it tells us that our desires will be for our husband. That’s why little girls grow up wanting to be married because we were created to have a natural desire for our husbands. Due to the fall of Adam and Eve, whom we are decedents of, God made our desires to be to our husbands and for our husbands to rule over us.
However having a desire for our husbands is not all bad. Just as Eve had influence on Adam, so we have influence on our husband. I Peter 3:1-6 says we are to submit to our husbands and win them over by our behavior, which should be pure and reverent. Our beauty should come from within and not with outward adorning. So we can say, a wife that wears submission and reverence is Beautiful in the eyes of her husband.
Our significance as a wife is to be a helper to our husbands. We can help him succeed in his desires and dreams in life or we can help discourage him not to achieve his aspirations.
God has given us inner strength to affirm our husband emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Even though Eve was judged by God for her disobedience, it is an advantage for us today, being a Wife is a privilege and it is an opportunity to be a blessing to our husband on a daily basis.
I could go on and on regarding the significance of a wife but I will leave this moment with a question: what kind of helper does your husband need?
