while Growing in Grace"
-Matt. 28:19-20, 2 Pet. 3:18
How do you feel when someone tells you they love you? Do you return the gesture? Do you feel warm inside? Do you get goose bumps or butterflies in your stomach? I assume you would, if you were experiencing young love. But as we mature, we realize love has nothing to do with feelings and emotions but everything to do with action.
This week we are discussing Genuine Love in our Sunday school lesson. It made me reflect on how and who people choose to love. It is a great reminder to all Christians how we should love one another. But the challenge comes when we choose to love those who chooses not to love us back. I know you are saying to yourself, are you crazy, I’m not about to show love to my enemy. I struggled with this for years. Trying to love those people in spite of how they were treating me however, Paul encourages us in Romans 12:19 not to get revenge: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. As I got this in my spirit, it became easier to love instead of hate. In those times of struggle, I showed one gesture of love at a time until it got easier.
As Christians, we continuously say, we want to be like Christ. Christ didn’t just say He loved us, but demonstrated it on the cross. So the next time you want to tell someone you love them, don’t tell them; show them.
